Currency

The official currency of the country is the Mexican Peso, with denominations from MXN $1000, 500, 200, 100, 50 and 20 pesos, the coins have denominations of MXN $20, 10, 5, 2, 1 peso and 50 cents.
High-denomination bills may not be accepted in some establishments. Please take this into consideration when purchasing items in local stores or exchange houses.
Amounts equal to or greater than $10,000 USD must be declared at the time of arrival at your destination.
In most large cities USD will be welcome, we recommend you check the exchange rate in advance since in some establishments the exchange rate can be very low
Book in advance your accommodation, tours, attractions, car rentals, shuttles and tours, since in high tourism season the demand for activities can be saturated.

CREDIT CARDS
VISA, MC, and AMEX are widely accepted in most establishments in large cities or towns, but not in rural areas of most of the country.
We recommend informing your bank in advance that you will visit this country to avoid blocking your credit or debit card as a security measure.

ATM
ATMs are very easy to find in most cities and towns across the country. Most only allow you to withdraw in MXN pesos. 

Do not trust ATMs that offer withdrawals in USD or those located outside banks.
